Questions, answered
What is Vedic astrology?
Vedic astrology (Jyotish) is the traditional astrology of India, based on the sidereal zodiac. It uses the fixed positions of the stars, rather than the seasonal tropical zodiac, and is the foundation for birth charts, dashas and panchang.
What ayanamsa do you use?
The default is Lahiri (ICRS), the most common sidereal ayanamsa. You can switch to another ayanamsa in settings; charts for a given birth time will shift accordingly, but the calculation rules stay sidereal.
Are my birth details private?
Yes. All calculations run locally in your browser. Your birth data is stored only on your device and is never uploaded — sharing is always your choice, and private shares hide your birth details.
What charts and systems are included?
The D1 birth chart, the D9 Navamsa ladder and other divisional charts (D2–D12), Vimshottari dasha, transits, the annual Tajika chart, and panchang. Houses are computed with Placidus over a sidereal zodiac; Sripati is also stored.
Is Astro Vhiron free?
Yes — it is free and open source under AGPL-3.0. You can read the source, run your own copy, and contribute. No paywalls and no account required to calculate a chart.
